Fighters get their rugby on: Mitrione, Fitch and Bonnar with the Sydney Roosters

With the UFC invading Sydney for UFC 127, the media was on hand as fighters Matt Mitrione, Jon Fitch, Stephan Bonnar, James Te Huna and Kyle Noke met with Sydney's rugby team, the Roosters.

For a former football defensive tackle, Mitrione showed some pretty good hands with the larger rugby ball (Fanhouse video). Although the narrator in this Roosters' video said, the fighters "weren't really impressing with the ball."

Mitrione and fellow Purdue Boilermaker Stephan Bonnar reminisce about the drunken days at Purdue's Ross-Ade Stadium. Mitrione was playing for Joe Tiller, so he wasn't the drunken viewer. He also loved the grass at the Sydney Roosters' stadium.

If you're wondering what Steggles sells, fittingly, it's a poultry company.

Check out all of Tracy Lee's photos from the event.

Falling Action: Best and Worst of UFC on Versus 3

Filed under:

There are those who would argue that you can tell who won a fight by looking at each participant's face when it's over. They're usually the same people who think takedowns are worthless and jiu-jitsu is some vague form of cheating, so don't listen to them.

Except just this once they seem to have a point. Both Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann took some damage in the main event of UFC on Versus 3, but it was Sanchez whose face looked like a Picasso that had been left out in the rain by the time it was all over. And you're telling me this guy won?

He did on the judges' scorecards, anyway, even if he might have had a hard time convincing the nurses in the hospital of that fact. Since the enduring images from that fight are likely to be ones of a deformed and bloodied Sanchez, it's hard not to wonder if MMA fans will be any less skeptical.

Now on to Thursday night's biggest winners, losers, and everything in between.

Top 5 Best Moments Of "UFC On Versus 3: Sanchez vs. Kampmann"

In many ways, ?UFC on Versus 3? had some weighty shoes to fill. This was the first post-WEC Versus show, and the quality would have to be rather high to make up for the diminished schedule of live MMA on Versus. While it may not have been without its controversies, most of the fights lived [...]

Watch 'Feijao' grunt as he prepares for Henderson at Strikeforce

Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante hits hard. If you didn't know that already, this video will convince you.

Feijao won the Strikeforce light heavyweight belt by virtue of those hard hits, TKOing "King Mo" Lawal in August. In fact, those hard hits have earned him nine wins. Of the 10 times he has had his hand raised, nine have come from TKO or KO. (The other one is a submission.) He's never had a fight go to a decision.

On Saturday, those strikes will be tested by Dan Henderson, who has some big strikes of his own. Henderson beat Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva in Pride before scoring highlight reel knockouts of Renato Sobral and Michael Bisping. Tell us: whose power will win out?

Follow Cagewriter at Strikeforce in Columbus on Facebook and Twitter, and follow the good folks at Blackhouse MMA to win Feijao's handwraps.

Thanks to Bloody Elbow for the heads up.
